Evidence-Based ACL Injury Prevention

ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) injuries are among the most devastating injuries an athlete can experience, often requiring surgery and months of rehabilitation. At Optimum Physio Therapies in San Antonio, TX, our ACL Injury Prevention Program uses evidence-based techniques to significantly reduce your risk of ACL tears and other knee injuries. Whether you're a competitive athlete or a weekend warrior, this program can help keep you healthy and on the field.

Why ACL Injuries Happen

Most ACL injuries occur during non-contact situations when athletes decelerate, land from a jump, or change direction quickly. Research shows that many ACL tears are preventable with proper training. Common risk factors include poor landing technique (landing with straight or knocked knees), muscle imbalances, core weakness, and lack of neuromuscular control. Our program addresses each of these factors through targeted training.

What to Expect

The program begins with a comprehensive assessment including movement screening, strength testing, and video analysis of your jumping and landing mechanics. Based on your assessment results, we'll create a personalized training plan. Training sessions are typically 45-60 minutes and include warm-up exercises, strength training, plyometric drills, and sport-specific movements. We recommend participating 2-3 times per week for optimal results.
